Moving Holly Bush.

I want to move my medium sized holly bush to a more suitable position in my garden. Is it a difficult job or impossible? Is the root ball too large or fragile to move?

The best time to move shrubs / bushes is in the winter when they're dormant but as this is evergreen, it probably doesn't have quite such a strong dormant season. You may find that it has built up a fairly large root system so you would have to dig round the base in a wide circle and have a large sack/tarpaulin nearby so that you can drag, rather than lift it, to its new location.
Be sure to dig a deep hole in its new location before attempt to dig out the bush, and put some well rotted manure or compost in the base of the new hole. Move the bush as quickly as possible to avoid any roots drying out and keep it well watered for two or three weeks at least to help it get established again.

whoever is right, i moved a yew tree with a huge root complex, and it did very well after an initial droop

You can move anything if the rootball is big enough.
Do it. Prepare and water hole well first.

Good advice from Whoever. If you have time to spare, go round the shrub with a sharp spade at say 300mm from stem at slight angle, severing roots. Leave holly in ground and move next winter, by which time the Holly should have have built up a tighter root system.
