For the past month the air been filled with white bits of very light fluff . I thought they were dandlion seed but they are different. The seed is pinhead size and the 20 odd leg-like appendages are about 2mm long.
They are a bit spider like in appearance. There are thousands of them at a time. Any ideas what I am looking at .?

they were about here too--just thot they were dandelion
Can it be rosebay willow herb, or is it a bit early? Long tall weeds that grow like the clappers - they are fiendishly seedy and they blow everywhere on the wind.
Was over my way too for days and i assumed they were dandelions especially as I heard/read that it has been a bumper year for them apparently.
We've had this question asked before at this time of year...I think the answer was that it was the seeds of poplar trees.

I have looked at dozens of pictures on Google and I think as Robina suggested they are poplar. I shall now see if there are any in my area. Thanks everyone.
They may have blown in on the winds from hundreds of miles away. If you take a walk in a meadow you will see many ways plants disperse their seed.
We have simialr round here that amalgamate against structures and look like snow.
