I maintain a local community garden where there is a fairly large cherry tree. I can't be more specific because I have very little gardening knowledge. From the roots there are "suckers" sprouting all over this garden. Should I just cut them off as near as possible to the roots? Or will this be a never ending saga. Help appreciated.

It will be a never ending saga but if you keep at it the suckers will not develop. As you cut them off they will get less prolific but it is a hard job at first .Good luck.
