House trend?

I have been looking at houses online and noticed quite a few have tongue and groove ceilings in some rooms. Is this a new trend or are they hiding something? I also saw a house that had some lovely script on the walls in some of the rooms. Are these transfers or hand painted? TIA

On the ceiling? I've never seen that before! What an odd thing to do....

And I suppose they could be either.. You would have to have closer look to be able to tell.

Generally a kitchen or bathroom thing to do, usually accompanied by ginger varnish.

Hi CM, I think the script you saw were transfers. I was looking for something quite different when I came across the same thing on ebay the other day. I really liked some of the words and have copied them to my little book for future projects!

I've put T&G in a bay in the past, but that was a different height to the main ceiling. Just thought it looked good, and it did. I wasn't aware it was a possible trend at the moment, but it sounds a reasonable choice to me. I guess it depends on how else the room is decorated. Always the chance it looks a bit too oppressive, especially if not a light wood. It's the overall affect that needs to be considered.

Terrible fire hazard if covered in varnish. More of a seventies thing. The script was probably via a stencil.

My friend had song lyrics painted in script onto her bedroom wall by her tattoo artist friend so it really could be either.

I guess we're all thinking of 70s/80s T&GV that eventually turns a bright orange :o(

Perhaps you mean painted TGV? That's very much in fashion right now.......... a sort of seaside/Scandinavian/New England look.

I wouldn't imagine there are problems with the ceilings to be honest. It would have been just as easy to repair the ceiling rather than go to all the trouble of boarding it.

Some very expensive houses have t&g ceilings painted white.......very much the in thing especially in seaside locations.

T&G, 70s or 80s? Make that 1890s! My house was built in 1888. A couple of years later an extension was added, and its original ceiling has 3'' x 3/4'' T&G.
