hope someone can help me here, I just got a load of washing out of the machine only to find dirty greyish streaks on it that were not on it when it went in, its never happened before and I wondered if the machine has got dirty, I never thought you had to wash out a washing machine, I never have, but this one is quite old, help please.
Very probably the drum bearing oil seal is breaking down.
If it is then it's a big job to replace it and it will only get worse, eventually the drum bearings will start to break down too and the machine will start making a hell of a racket when spinning (if it's not already) and eventually it will die altogether.
cheaper these days to buy a new machine as repairs will cost you a fortune. I always go for a simple easy settings with cold washes included and a good spin rev and if after a few years it breaks down I get a new one. Simples .
It might be there's a fault but it's definitely worth giving it a clean first to see if that solves the issue.
Most manufacturers recommend cleaning your machine every couple of months so it does sound like it’s time to give yours a once-over. I spoke to Bosch and they suggest simply running it on a 90 degree cycle while empty. It’s also a good idea to regularly wipe out the detergent tray and around the rubber seals to stop soap scum and mildew building up there. To give it a thorough wash and to help reduce limescale I also sometimes put a splash of white vinegar in the tray before running it empty on a hot cycle. Hope that helps! x
