Was God An Alien?

I’ve taken this from another area of AB because I’ve been asked a question on the subject and I prefer to discuss it here.

I think it entirely possible that aliens visited earth thousands of years ago and because of their advanced technology, were mistaken by the primitive earthlings for supernatural gods. Ancient texts from around the globe, including the bible, carry accounts of flying vehicles, and unfathomable structures as well as artifacts, drawings, etc., which appear to represent that which would have astonished the people of the day, but are now easily recognisable, are plentiful.

... and to answer him, there is no correlation between my suspicions and Theland’s faith. I look at texts - the bible included - and being fully aware that technology was non-existent at the time those texts were written, simply ask what the authors were attempting to describe, My conclusion can only be the presence on earth of a far more technologically advanced race of people who came here from elsewhere.

This is a subject I’ve studied for very many years and one that I find absolutely fascinating. Let me know what you think. I’ve got my tin hat on. ;o)

and what of people with hi iq levels are they possibly off spring from eon ago, the einsteins the composers artists etc.. never say never.
as they are it seems rare among other human beings.

Why would aliens go to all the trouble of visiting another planet and not:-
1/ plunder it?
2/ take it under control and live there?
3/ leave any sign that they ever visited?

1. Perhaps they did plunder it. We have no idea what might have been valuable to them.

2. The ancient texts have been written over a very long period so if you read them as I read them I guess the gods did live here for quite some time.

3. I think they left a lot of signs.

This is an interesting idea, but seems a shame these guys havent been back. What makes you think they are people? And what year do you believe they visited "us"? And finally, why do you believe they "visited" rather than stayed?

Stone aqueducts aren't that advanced. Nor are stone pyramids. Maybe I've missed something exciting; point me in the right direction.

Atheist, sorry, I missed one of your questions. Ancient writings and drawings tell of machines that flew - and there are ancient models of planes so a bit of an advance on even a state of the art donkey and cart of the day .... wouldn’t you say?

Naomi, the Bible talks about flying machines. Flying machines were a common dream in the olden days (magic carpets, flying horses...)
Ancient images of planes? Surely ancient aliens would be able to do better than imitate 20th century heavier than air machines?

My own two penneth worth....

Man has always looked to the stars (before light pollution)
Those same stars were peopled with figures, both human and animal, a type of paradolia.
The zodiac was born.
A short step to believing that beings from other worlds/constellations visited us.

The 'amazing' artifacts of there visit can all be explained.
Having read Von Danikan, and others, I must admit that there sources leave a little to be desired.

Im open to the idea that Im wrong.

They weren’t imitating us, atheist. I imagine their planes were something like our lunar buggies - vehicles to get around the place rather than the craft they travelled through space in.
