'I'd Know If It Was Not You.'

Earlier today, I went to collect some laundry from the baskets. Walking downstairs, with an arm ful of Mr T's clothes, I thought, I'd recognise that smell anywhere.

Suddenly, into my head popped a woman's lovely, sad voice saying, 'I'd know if it was not you.'

Now, I can't get rid of the voice, neither can I grasp where I've heard that before.

Anyone recognise that quote?

no

Thanks for the reply, Dave.

Did you actually hear it or do you think maybe it was a quote from a film, eg??

Question Author

I heard the phrase in my head, Patsy but it's probably part of a poem/book I've read.

The voice was not mine though.

I don't know the quote but it sounds sort of Jane Eyre-y

How weird!  I've googled it but it's not coming up with anything.  What about the smell?  Clean laundry?

Mind you, it could possibly be Mr Rochester when Jane return after he has lost his sight

Question Author

Could be, Rosetta.

I feel that it's said by someone bereaved. Someone asking to be visited by a departed love.

Yes, that's what I thought. Perhaps something triggered that phrase in your conscientiousness from that smell that suddenly reminded you of a quote from book or whatever.

Question Author

No, Naomi. It was laundry to be washed. Mr T's laundry.

^^^^^^

consciousness!

I knew what you meant, Patsy.😀

Well done, patsy.  Any good Tilly?

I'm intrigued by this.

Question Author

That could be it, Patsy. Where did you find that, please?

Have you read the book/seen the film, Tilly?

Question Author

Both, Naomi. I read the book when I was at school, having read The Grapes of Wrath and Of Mice and Men.

Good find Patsy😀
