Laminate flooring

Hi, Im laying laminate flooring and wanted some opinions of the best way for me to do it as my room is not entirely square. On one of the walls is a recess where the patio doors are. This will mean that this is the longest part of the room. Should I start laying the laminte into this recess first? This will mean that Im im not starting in a corner as is advised. If I do start in a corner then when I come to the recess there will be an extra 200mm into this recess and the minimum required length of the end boards is 400mm. Im a bit confused where is best to start, recess and work out in either direction or start in a corner, but then what do I do about the extra 200mm. Hope Ive explained this so you all understand what I mean. Thanks in advance for any answers x

I think you are supposed to lay the floor at right angles to the light source, if you see what I mean. So you start on a wall, but not the one your patio doors are on, or the one opposite them. Then when you get to the doors, your lines of flooring will be 200mm longer than in the rest of the room.

That's what I think anyway! I could be totally wrong.

Good luck! By the way, if you have dogs, you'll think the floor is relatively hair free, but when you move your furniture out the way, it'll all be under there!!

I'm afraid you will find no room in any house square ! Yes, I realise that wasn't quite what you meant.

I always chose to lay laminate lengthways following the longest side of the room. If this happens to coincide with the way natural light enters the room from a window then all the better as has been mentioned.
