carpet underlay

will be having new carpet laid soon, can anyone tell me if there is any point in paying extra money for medium grade underlay rather than simply going for the cheapest? They look very similar to me but wondered if anyone out there can give me advice

This may be to late,but always gone for the dearest underlay you can afford . it helps reduce the wear on the carpet its self sounds strange but true, most piles on carpet go flat after a sort time good underlay helps prevent this,mor so on stairs
