My washing machine has started to have the same smell as if you left wet washing in it overnight even though I am removing the clothes right away. I've checked the filter etc but everything seems fine and now the smell is transfering to the clothes as well!. The machine is only about a year old and is washing at the correct temperature. I don't know what else this could be?
We had a smell from our empty washing machine. When the machine was serviced recently the fitter said bacteria remained in the outlet system. He suggested running the washing machine empty at close to boiling point 90-95% to kill any lurking bugs.
Try running the machine through the full cycle without any clothing in it.
Check underneath the machine to make sure its not leaking also check that the waste pipe from the machine is correctly fitted as if it is not fouls smells could come back into the machine.
Pull out the soap box as well and give it and the slot where it fits a good thorough clean too.
And don't close the door when you empty the machine leave it ajar.
Thanks for your replys, I've tried running it on a 90 degree wash empty , and I've checked the filter and the drainage pipe. I think I will try running it on the hottest cycle with washing soda in followed by white vinigar as someone else on answerbank has suggested and see if this works.
My Machine had a terrible smell and I discovered that the waste pipe was harboring water that just wasn't moving, try taking the waste pipe off and draining it then flush it through with some bleach.
I was told by washing machine repair man that you should do an empty 90 degree wash about once a month. He also recommended putting FInish dishwasher cleaner in it - I pour bottle of liquid followed by equivalent amount of water into the drawer and the run the cycle - works a treat at keeping smells at bay.
