Stainless steel sink's gone brown!

I have a fairly new stainless steel sink and in and around the plug hole it has now tuned brown. I recently tried WD40 which I was sure would work and although there's a slight improvement it is noweher near what it should be. Does anyone have any suggestions?

it probably good quality stainless steel. instead of 18/10 probably it was 18/6. did you use something to clean it with that may cause the colour change? go to your hardware and ask them about it ... they might be able to shed some light.

MIne went like that too around the plughole but it comes off with a scrub and some cif (and some elbow grease) although if it's fairly new (and I assume under warranty) I'd go back to the place you bought it from and ask for a replacement

Just try wiping it round with some All Purpose liquid Flash and leave it for an hour or so - it should be fine!!

try cif cream and a dryish cloth or cillit bang. I always pour a bit of bleach down the plug hole and it gets rid of staining, if you do it be careful though cos if it gets in the bottom of the sink it leaves a really shiny clean mark lol

If bleach doesn't work, and it does happen to be a rust mark (I had one on mine recently from an item of cutlery left in it) then lemon juice will remove a rust mark.

Bleach or lemon one or the other will do it.

I have read that you shouldn't use bleach on stainless steel sinks.

A rare one for rules, I use my own mix of Stardrops and bleach in water, in an old spray bottle. I use it on everything in the kitchen. Now and then I give a good squirt of neat bleach all around the sink and make sure all the surface is covered. Cover all the surface or you will get miss marks. Leave a while for stain removal and rinse off.

Bar Keepers Friend is good, avaliable from John Lewis. Or put bicarb of soda on a lemon half and give the plug hole a rub.
