Has anyone got any tips for removing tough stains from a beige carpet? I don't know how he manages it but there are dark grubby stains on the carpet where my dad sits. I've tried Vanish carpet spray but it hasn't worked.

I use fizzy water which works well. For some reason Perrier works the best.
Don't buy beige carpets!!

I didn't buy beige carpets. It's a rented house.
When you've found a solution, clean it then buy one of those little carpet samples for him to put under his feet.....

Good idea, have been looking for a rug to put down but with a white cat who malts like there is no tomorrow I tend to lose with whatever colour I pick. Oh well.
They're £1 in many carpet shops round here, milly, worth a thought!

Nope, can't say I have found any that work anything like they are supposed to. I just try and go by reccomendations (sp) these days.
my friend has a carpet shampoo machine and it works well, bit expensive though, but cheaper in the long run i suppose than getting it done professionally.
You shouldn't spray your Dad with Vanish .. It might work .. then the stains would stop : )

Remember Dab-It-Off dry cleaning fluid?
Have you tried 1001 carpet shampoo Ive used it for years and find it the best. It sometimes needs a couple of goes if the stain is very bad.
yep i use 1001 too

Albags - Vanish of Dad? brilliant idea. Can't say I've ever heard of the dab it off fluid.

Will give 101 a try. Thanks!
hire a rug doctor carpet cleaner from morrisons or b&q brilliant machines!!!
Be careful with Dab it off, as it is solvent based (used to be used for dry cleaning), but good old fairy liquid and the fizzy water is a fair try. Old fashioned soda crystals work quite well too. Good luck. I have the same problem with a beige carpet.
