How would we search for a good sized field anywhere in England and Wales that we could build on, possibly just put a permanent mobile home on that we could extend over time. We need a few acres really.

What areas/counties would be cheapest.

thanks :-)
www.uklanddirectory.co.uk also try building magazines online. primelocation website has the facility to search with keywords, building plot, acres. etc
Back in the day, Ratts, people would take off to Wales, buy a run-down with ground, and renovate it. Everyone's on to that now though.
A field will only have agricultural value, therefore cheap. To get PP to site a mobile is a hell of a job. I tried for someone a few years ago. You have to show that the enterprise (business) taking place on the land, has to be capable of sustaining you, and necessitates you living on the premises.
If a field has PP for a dwelling, you could pay 2,3,4 maybe 500k for it....... depending on where it is.
I have seen smallholdings/horsey/horticultural properties come up locally, with a mobile already sited......... still 250k range though.
I would suggest a search agent. A friend of mine does this for Stags. I'm not sure if Stags are in Bideford, but certainly in Barnstaple.
Might be worth registering.
not sure what your budget is but check out' The Smallholding centre' They have opn their site a 5.5acre property with a one bedroom wooden chalet for £125,000
Join up to plotfinder and look on rightmove, just type in area and use drop down menu for land.
www.ruralscene.co.uk properties in wales from £155,000 ( use both rightmove and primelocation to advertise) Wales seems cheapest area, but bear in mind a lot of agents and sites in Wales do not use Primelocation or Rightmove you may have to search on line by area for individual agents.
Another one worth looking at www.smallholding-wales.co.uk If you haven't guessed by now , we have also gone through the process that you are embarking. Good luck in your search.
hi its me again, another option is to buy a unconverted barn with land, best sitefor this (there are others). is www.barnsetc. they cover the whole country plus some in France. They have a few in Wales with land. Local authorities sometimes allow temporary mobile homes while the conversion is taking place.

Many thanks all, we have a few options to sift through now, at the end of the day we will probably stay put here but just toying with the idea of a move in the future.
