Devon is lovely! Really beautiful countryside, friendly people, good facilities and amenities, lots of things to do for all ages, nice places to eat out etc. Job market is not the best, wages are pretty low, but it depends on what you're looking for really. If you are sick of city life, then this is a lovely place to come to and if you miss the city, you can go shopping in Plymouth or Exeter.
Southwold is certainly desirable. Beach huts sell, within minutes of going on the market, for at least £80,000. A mid-terrace house, close to the sea, will set you back around one million pounds.
It really is a lovely place though:

Staying here in Suffolk, Lavenham is also 'desirable' for many people:

However your definition of 'desirable' might be different to that of other people. Do you want a quiet village or a city filled with culture, good restaurants and plenty of 'buzz' about it?
