New neighbour
37 Answers
New neighbour moved in last week (renting the bungalow next door) and we haven't spoken as yet.
Got up this morning to find someone had put a bag full of rubbish in my bin which was out for collection. This meant my bin would not shut properly and I had to put it in my other neighbour's bin (after asking her) so as to avoid a ticking off by the 'bin police'.
The new neighbours bin was overflowing so I can only assume it was her rubbish in my bin, as my other neighbours wouldn't dream of doing that.
Should I see her about it or ignore it for harmony's sake...........

Ouch.. sounds like they are off to a good start!
I'd mention it - just friendly in passing... (if thats possible) or maybe you could visit to introduce yourself.. let them know that bin collection day is X and that the bin police are a bit of a nightmare where you are so you have to be careful how much you throw away.. then say.. Some bugger only went and put a bin bag...

Maybe just an honest noobs mistake, if you have lived there long then i would say that it's your neighbourly duty to show her around and explain all the rules etc..
You never know you may have a lot in common and become great friends after taking her under your wing and if not at least you'll be seen in the neighborhood as a good neighbor.

Personally, I think that's a bit cheeky. Most of us know about the 'bin police' these days and how they won't take your bin if the lid's not closed and she obviously didn't seem to care that yours wouldn't close after she'd put her rubbish in BUT as others have said on here, best to give her the benefit of the doubt for friendship's sake and see if it happens again. Hope it doesn't.
notasyoungasiwas but the neighbor may've came from a place where they either shared the same bins or wasn't too fussed who used which bins.
I think this has to be taken into account before any rough judgement is made against what just could be a naive neighbor, afterall this is our duty as fellow humanitarians.

We still have just bin bags around here(not the wheelie bins) and are allowed to put 3 bags outside the property but no more..(the binmen just leave them) each week.
If anybody has more we just put them outside neighbours houses with less than 3 to get rid of them...A bit of community spirit.
Just mention the fact you still had rubbish to put out and couldn't close the lid because of their waste.
Be polite and it'll probably be fine...It's good to talk :-)
