I have had a couple of quotes to repair my garage, I admit it is in a terribe state but at £5,250 I have to say I was shocked. I am now thinking of replacing it with a concrete one but am wondering how much I would have to pay to have this brick built one taken down and removed.
Yes, at that price, Janet, it would certainly be a good idea to look at a new one. The ones in the link you showed me recently were quite impressive for the price.
I think the garage was built by the previous owner who was not builder, between the roof and walls there is a lot of sort of wadding that presumably fills in any gaps!!! The quote for repairs include, build brickwork level all round the garage, 7x2 timber joists, new sterling board sheets, new fascia leadwork and guttering, new felt roof on top of sterling board, take off existing electrics and install new.
Janet, I think I mentioned on your earlier thread that recently, I took a similar garage down to make way for an extension. With a skip next to the garage, I had the whole lot in it in a day......... on my own.
I took the sheets to the local tip myself. Around here, they have a bin dedicated to low-risk asbestos cement waste.
Should be around £600 including the skip. Prepare for some arguing over the "hazard" of asbestos cement sheets from whoever does the job for you.
