can't you just get an estate agent to come and value it? surely they wouldn't know you didn't own it? last time mine was valued i don't remember paying them a fee

I know this post is old, but my comment earlier was based on it not being clear if the aim was to buy A council house or THEIR council house. Obviously you cannot purchase a random council house, but if was THEIR house, then the first stop is obviously the council they are renting from.
