When these companies claim you only have to give them your bank details for them to find out whether you have ever had PPI, do they mean PPI solely from just that bank or do they mean any PPI from anywhere else? I'm not asking whether its a god idea to use these people i just wondered if they searched for PPI on any loan and any credit card just by giving one set of bank details.

As far as I know all they do is fill out the form for the bank for which you've given them details (the same form you could have filled out for yourself).

I've assumed "bank" meant whatever financial organisation lent you the money; but I suppose that if payments left your current bank account then that would be enough to trace the financial arrangement with another lender.
