Lovely son made a gift of this. Looked it up on the net and completely panicked. Anyone able to tell me how to try to keep it alive until my birthday in May. Not good with indoor plants. Need advice in words of one syllable, non-technical if possible.

The Royal Horticultural Society website indicates that 'bright filtered light' is a possible key to success. So your Pink Quill needs to be on, or near to, a window ledge where you can get as close as possible to 'dappled shade':
http://apps.rhs.org.u...or/plant?plantid=3513
The need for 'moderate to high' humidity, mentioned here

suggests that your bathroom might be the best place for it.
