Moving House

I'm moving house soon. Should I tell the council the day I move, or do I need to give them notice?

If this is about Council tax, a week or two notice to the Council is better.  Last time I moved, I remember the Council were very insistent I had to tell them the names of the people who were moving in (so they could send them a Council Tax bill).  (I was moving out of the borough).
