The little blighters decided to invade my detached garage yesterday, so i decided to declare war on the lovely fluffsters - found out where they were coming in from and sealed up all the cracks and crevices........used some Raid Ant Killer, which they hopefully took back to the nest. This morning, just a few straggly loose ones that were hiding in there, walking about looking a bit pi s s ed, but i think a job well done.

Now i can get on with my life today........yay!!..... as it basically took over yesterday's activities from about mid aftenoon on............even missed my usual pub quiz in the evening, as i had to shift everything about, do the job and put it back.

I'm gonna just chill and get back to normality.

Have any of you ever had problems with ants or other such pests in the garage or maybe in the house and what cunning wrath did you use?

Bleeding ants tell me about it. I have to be careful as they get up into the parrots cage as she always has fruit they don't seem to bother the cockatiels cage. I use the anti stop base stations and use powder outside . Find this quite successful.

Hi wendilla,

There seems to more than usual this year about in the garden's, and some of my neighbours and friends have said the same too.

I used Ant Killer Bait with a gel that hopefully they take back to the nest and pass to the Queen in the nest, and it can wipe out colonies if successful. i also used powder outside where they seemed to be most active too.

I hate to kill any creatures truth be told, but enough is enough when they invade your space and home and you just gotta act accordingly.

Hope you get rid of yours, wendilla........if that's your bird on the avatar, it looks lovely, sweetheart. :0) x
Yes shes is a hannes macaw and talks well and very tame but the only problem I have she still keeps shouting my Labradors name that I had to have put to sleep 18 months ago.

Oh i'm sorry, wendilla.........once they get a phrase or saying and repeat it, they never forget it.

Maybe you should look at it as a tribute to a adorable and loving dog when she says it, my lovely.

Problem with having pets is that when you do sadly lose them, it's like losing one of the family.
As a Pest Controller for 13 years I obviously dealt with them fairly frequently.

Hiya RATTER,

I bet you saw some real nasty varments in your time as pest controller.

Ants are just so annoying, they will try to get in anywhere to get their sugar fix.
Yep. I used black pepper and chilli powder on the bit they were coming from and never had any problems again.
Yes I did yogi, but they paid up eventually :-)
i have the little buggers in my kitchen occasionally, looking for the bag of sugar. As I don't take sugar myself I simply put the bag out in the garden so they head that way instead! Not an ideal solution but is works for me.

LOL........Ratter :)...........it's the threat of sending in the heavy mob that does it!.....

Hiya CD,

Yep, i use them on my Pizza's too. Hope you're well, sweetheart :0) x

Morning D97x7,

Those Ant killer bait traps are also good too, as they take a bit back to the nest and hopefully eliminates the colony as the Queen gets it too. I used a Raid two pack.
yogi...................your a bear , why didnt you just eat them ?
A little tip, don't tell anyone as it illegal. Get some bendiocarb powder, most ant powders contain this so easy to get, mix some with the sugar and put it where only the ants can get to it.
Mixing a poison with a food stuff is illegal, well as a Professional Pest Controller it is.

I didnt tell you to do that!!!!! :-)
Morning yogi!
Your right some proper poison is better.
Many years ago when I lived in Sutton Coldfield, I had this huge plant that used to cover the roof of the extention - I forget what the plant was called, but it exuded a stick sweet sap and they used to love it. I got rid of the plant but for ages after the ants still appeared. I used to lean out of the back bedroom window and sprinkle 'Nippon' over it - I swear the little blighters used to snort the stuff! A friend told me not to buy expensive powders, but to use Talcum powder and or cinnamon instead - it worked like a charm too.
Thanks to annes answer I now have 'The Bear Necessities ' stuck in my head - 'If you look under the rocks and plants and take a glance at the fancy ants; and maybe try a few. Must try and persuade my little cubs to watch the Jungle Book today.

We don't have ants but slugs love our house for some reason. They come in the night and eat the cat food, horrible slimy things. Fortunately they're easy to catch and flip into the neighbour's garden.
I read somewhere that ants wont cross a chalk line as they hate it, so maybe draw a line all around your houses :>) Seriously, i did read that. So I bought some cheap chalk and ground it up and put it outside the back door where they seem to get in and it worked. Trouble is you have to keep replacing it.
Hi Yogi x
When we were little my mum used to pour kettles of boiling water on them. I always thought that was rather cruel.

I buy some circular disc thing from Wilko that the little blighters crawl into - and are never ever seen again. Not sure what happens in there (probably more cruel than boiling water :-(
When I was a kid me and my friends used to take great pleasure in chasing them with a magnifying glass on a sunny day, or putting some diluted sugar in a jar by a black ant colony then when they had taken interest in it putting it in the middle of the red ant colony to start a war.
Boys will be boys! Great fun!
