Would it be possible to make my own compost by putting my kitchen waste ,leaves etc into one of the thick heavy duty bags that are normlly used for rubble etc.Thankyou.

Yes, but make a few little holes in the bag to let the air circulate, otherwise you will end up with a slimey mess of gone-off leaves. Re kitchen waste, make sure not to put in any protein, otherwise you will attract rats. I put my toilet roll insides in the compost bin too.
You should add anything that grew originally, like paper, etc, but not weeds like dandelions or couch grass, and if you pour in 1part urine to 10 parts water, (really, no kidding) then when bag is full, store it behind a hedge or shed, but remember to aerate it with the garden fork all over and if poss give it the occasional shake up. Next year you will find some good stuff in there.
