Beeping smoke alarm

The smoke alarm is wired into the mains but it keeps beeping (I did give it a quick hoover earlier). Any ideas what's wrong with it - it's going to be quite a trick for me to reach it so I don't want to have to examine it too many times. Thanks

Backup battery might have had it.

There is also a Battery in it which needs replacing. If you have a Powercut the Battery keeps it working

even mains powered have a battery back up (in case power goes off and triggers a fire). change its battery :)

I'm safe! Got the battery out, found replacement but can't get it back in. Didn't want to Yabbie around too much so will let the husband finish the job off (at least it's stopped beeping).

While your up there...

Get yourself a can of compressed air... you know... the type used for cleaning computer keyboards, etc. Then use it to blow out the sensor area... it's a gap between the plastic top and the (probably) metal base. In the worst case scenario of not having a can of compressed air, use you vacuum cleaner (Oh, a Hoover in the U.K., no?) and using the crevice attachment, go around it.

Dust, bugs, small pets and other undesirables can get into this area and cause false beepings quite often...

If all else fails, have a word with your friendly neighbourhood fire service. There will be a telephone number to ring if the fire service building is closed when you get there.

It's easy to stop their filthy thoughts about the words "crevice" and "moist", just mention the word... discharge.
