My daughter has set the date for her wedding next year and tomorrow evening we are having a get together with her future in laws (this is because her and i are coming up with ideas and i feel his parents could feel left out and we dont want that). I have said i will cook tomorrow but now i really dont know what to cook! I know they like 'old fashioned' english food (as does my daughter and her dad), and although i love to cook and entertain i dont want to have to spend much time in the kitchen when they are here. Any suggestions would appreciated. I have a slow cooker and a hostess trolley which makes things easier but i dont want to put out a big overpowering spread.

What about shepherd's pie?
How about something simple like a casserole? That's pretty "old fashioned", and you could serve it with some nice, fresh, crusty bread. You'd just have to chuck everything together in a pot, and let it cook... giving you lots of free time to discuss wedding plans! :-)

I second Butterlytattoo's suggestion. I was trying to think of something that would suit this lovely warm weather, and that would be perfect.

Thank you so much for your good and quick answers! I think i may do a couple of things as there will be 8 of us altogether. I shall do a shepherds pie and then something that can go cold as suggested. Thanks again.
Let us know how it goes! Good luck.
