Small sewing kit
11 Answers
My grandson is joining the army and starts training in February. We have said that we will help him buy what he needs and one of the items is a small sewing kit - which used to be called a 'housewife' when grandadg joined up.
Has anyone got any ideas where I might get one please?

I'd get an assorted packet of sewing needles, a small pair of scissors, an assortment of small sewing thread in black, white, and an indeterminate - say grey or beige, and a few extra shirt buttons. A little packet of bondaweb might be useful as well for mending holes. Put these all together in a tin or small tupperware box.
Housewife's / hussifs would be in a tin or kept in a linen roll traditionally and might have included a darning mushroom, but we don't darn socks or woollies any more.

Astonished to find the Army doesn't issue these sewing kits any more. Loads on eBay. (Thread colours are more suitable than Aldi's!).
