Does your council grit the pavement?

Just seen someone on Facebook having a big old moan because our parish council has not gritted the pavements, although they seem to have done a good job on the roads and it occurred to me that I don't recall them ever gritting them.

On my way to work this morning (in another county) it was obvious none of the pavements around here have been done either.

Does your council make an effort to keep the pavements clear and if they don't do you think they should?

Nope. They don't even grit the side roads. Only the main ones...

My local council and county council do nothing.

Our village is a bit of a rat run because of the access to the M40 so they've done the larger roads and around the schools but left the smaller, residential ones. I'm happy with that.

Please don't expect them to grit pavements unless you're prepared to pay much more Council Tax.

no but there was a man out yesterday ( sunday and on overtime )who normally picks up rubbish with a picking tool and a black bag. Mind you he was still sitting in his van reading !

Pavements ??? what are they here in the depths of the Lambourn Valley we aint got no street lights never mind any pavements. Seriously though I do remember as a youngst erveveryone used to clear a path outside their own house and put down salt and cinders ( and no I'm not Victorian and I used to live Harrow as a child),also enterprising young lads would offer to clear your path and step for a few bob.

No they don't and yes they should, especially as it's lowering the kerbs so that cars can drive over tham that makes pavements dangerous to walk on in the first place.

any pavement gritting usually seems to be whatever bounces up from the roads as they grit them

No they dont do ours. Its fine once you get onto main roads (they boast) but having to walk about a mile to get there along slippery pavements is no joke. My OH uses a pavement/cycle lane and thats NEVER gritted so how are cyclists supposed to use it. Its lethal !

We live on a steep hill on an estate and neither the pavements or the roads are ever gritted as its not the main bus route (one road round the estate)

not the street pavements they don't no, but last year when we had the snow then the severe frosts they did clear, sweep and grit the pavements in town.

no they dont, infact we have only just received our free bin bags that were due at the start of december!

A few of us in our street do all club together and clear quite a stretch of pavement in our street, but some cant or cant be bothered. Its a bit difficult for streets with no residents to do this. It would be a mammoth task but every year we suffer and are not prepared enough

Pavements would come very low on the list of priorities. Last year when we had tons of snow it was main roads first, side roads next if they had time and pavements a very poor third. However, they did keep the grit bin in our carpark topped up regularly and we did the rest.
