roofing

Hi all,
i have a garage and a half ( size quoted by estate agent on sellers blurb). the roof is that old looking grey corrugated asbestos looking stuff, which has split in loads of places, so needs re-roofing. Not being a rich tory, i need the cheapest option. At present, the roof supports are those metal bar things. would it be cheaper to remove all that and put joists in and chipboard and felt, or is there a cheap roofing sheet?

I would go for "box profile" metal sheets Perce. They're powder-coated in a range of colours. You see them on stables, factories etc.
I'm off out now, but I'll come back on later if you need more ideas.

The biggest issue is how or who is going to remove/dispose of the current roof...its that word 'ASBESTOS' again....

How old is your garage ?, It may not be asbestos.

Don`t mess with Asbestos. Wear a mask for safety sake.

I posted a reply about something similar recently. They're probably asbestos/cement roffing sheets.

Ok for non-licensed people to work on, and it's not notifiable......

hi all,
thanks builder, but i am still amazed at the cost of re-roofing a silly garage,
thought a couple of hundred quid would see it off, but looks more like £500.
The roof is about 30 years old, and i am guesssing that its not asbestos, but I must admit it does look like it, as i remember it from the 50's. no problem removing it, i will get the local pikeys to dispose of it, they know a few quiet country lanes where they can tip it. no, I will take a bit to the environment bloke at the council and get his opinion. If its dodgy stuff, it can stay there for the next owner to sort out.
