Mousetrap

I opened a food cupboard yesterday morning, and noticed mice droppings on the tins, and a bag of dried soup mix had been nibbled. I put a piece of chocolate on the trap, but that hasn't been touched. Can anyone suggest an effective foodstuff to put on the trap please. I loathe the thought of mice in the house. Many thanks.

I used some hamster food, bought a cheap block in Wilkinsons, broke pieces off it and put them in trap.

We had mice and used peanut butter, it caught the blighters.

Strange... no answers were there when I posted... but, it seems we have a majority agreement... I use the cheapest kind possible since it's the smell to which they are attracted...

Get a Twix or something with caramel in, peel the caramel off and put it on the trap, whilst the mice are tugging at it..... Bang!

Many thanks for all the suggestions. I have just returned home from buying a jar of Peanut butter, and will use that first. I have also bought a bar of Cadbury's Caramel, but may have to buy another if the peanut butter doesn't work, as I felt the need to road test it on the journey home!
