Bathroom tiling

I tend to be generous paying tradespeople. I'm having bathroom retiled. Told the area is 6 sq m (mostly around shower area), but it's small. Straightforward work, no restoration needed. How long should this take. After eight hours today we're less than half way there with only one wall done. I sort of think at least all tiles should be in place, grouting to follow. Nice chap, I'm not looking for probs, but should this job take two days?

Did you ask for a fixed 'all in' price or are you paying him by the day?

Well I've got a price but I'd feel guilty if it should have been more and annoyed if he'd taken a ride. One small wall in a day seems not much work, but maybe I'm being unreasonable. That's what I need to know.

My builder tiled my whole wetroom in one day...............

maybe he is still getting experience and is a bit slow....but should take account of that in his pricing.....make sure you discuss this with him tomorrow. if he's a nice chap you should be able to talk to him about it x

Thanks. I don't mind people practising with me as long as they tell me, but you are probably right. When it takes longer than predicted I have a tendancy to insist on payng more!

We have just had our cloakroom re-tiled. Job involved removing toilet cistern, washbasin, radiator and old tiles from walls and window sill. Hot and cold water feed pipes to washbasin and w/basin waste replaced and re-routed. New tiles put on including tricky corners so a lot of tile cutting. Job took 3½ days and we were delighted with the quality of the work - and the price (£425 plus cost of tiles)

......your tiler could be quite meticulous and want to do a perfect job for you, as long as the price he has quoted reflects the time he is taking and the job is perfect when complete I shouldn't worry........he's probably not in the " bodge it and leg it club " ;0)

Hi overthetop. Depending which part of the country you are from a tradesman should be charging you between £16 - £20 per hour for tiling. I would be worried if he had only done 3 sq m in a day but if he has priced for the whole job then its up to him really if he takes 2 days or 4. you should never pay a tradesman more money because he has taken longer than planned -thats his problem! BTW - OH is a builder ;-)
