About three years ago I fitted brand new reasonably expensive brass door handles throughout my bungalow. Gradually one by one they have strated to squeek!!! It drives me made when I have people stay and they have to get up in the night. First its their bedroom door, then the bathroom and then the kitchen when they want a drink of water!!! Can anyone offer a remedy for this. I have tried oiling one but I just made a mess down the paintwork.

Que sera, just remove the handles and apply a little grease to the spring mechanism.
WD 40 used to work fine with me and the ex
Well I have heard many uses for WD40, but that's a new one on me!
Lipsalve worked for me (it doesn't drip).
WD40 works for me as well.............
Wee scoosh of WD40 as suggested should do the trick.
Silicon will do it also, Mr Sheen or something like that.

Are you sure it's the handles and not the hinge pins? The hinge pins, when dry, will emit a very high pitched squeak when the door is opened and closed... in which case using a scew driver and hammer, drive the pin up about 2 inches... squirt it with WD-40 and reset it... treat each hinge thusly...

Thanks for all of these answers. I am about to try WD40 and if that does not do the trick, then I will try unscrewing them and the dab of lithium grease. Thanks again. Very helpful. xx

WD40 brilliant - my car door stuck very badly quite a number of times and I nearly took a coronory in getting the key out - when I got in to the house I put the little red stick on the end of pushy thing and squeezed through the lock and now the thing is like brand new. Great stuff.
