A Freezer For The Garage.

We have a very small three drawer freezer in the kitchen as part of an integrated 3/4 fridge,1/4 freezer unit.
The freezer is not really big enough, so we are thinking of getting a freezer to keep in the garage. Any hints, tips or warnings for this plan?

Its what i have always done. Buy the biggest chest freezer you can afford and fit in, you won't regret it.

not wonderfully well organised but no I don't lose things. I tend to keep things in areas...so all the meat in one place, frozen bread in another and so on.

I have a large upright freezer in the garage Tilly. It's been there for about 10 years and works OK. I had a large chest freezer before this one and being on the small size I could never reach to the bottom and used to lose things

When I lived at home, my mum always had a chest freezer on the patio just underneath the roof from upstairs, it had no protection whatsoever really. I agree with Woofy, the biggest you can fit in.

Wish I had room for another freezer. We have a big fridge freezer in the kitchen but the freezer section really isnt big enough for my liking.

We've got a6cuft up right in the garage we chose it as on the info it clearly stated that it was suitable for use in out buildings.

The old freezers worked well anywhere, but newer freezers have a different coolant and they can be problematic if used in cold places.

My freezer isn't a special one, i didn't realise there was such a thing. It's in a cellar so no heating coming from any of the walls. I used to have a chest freezer but just couldn't find things in it and so needed defrosting often due to warm air getting in while looking. Now I have a tall upright and each drawer has a specific thing in it so very easy to find what I'm looking for.

my freezer is a bog standard one too. the garage doesn't get to freezing point and its a rated for insulation (freezer not garage) we've never had a problem.

Ours conked out a couple of years winters ago and we were about to buy another one when we discovered that under a certain temp they can stop working. Anyway we now run a small greenhouse heater in our garage when it's very cold and the freezer (same one) works fine. We were recommended Beko as they apparently work in lower temps than a lot of others.

And when you empty your chest freezer do you find things you had forgotten right at the bottom.
