Hi,our hot tap in our kitchen sink has stopped working. This happens from time to time(once maybe twice a year) and I guess is down to the hardness of our water as we live on the south coast.

I am no plumber but get fed up paying for someone to fix this problem for us as it is probably simple to do myself.I took the top of the tap off but then couldnt loosen a nut so got scared off at that point !
Can anyone offer advice or recommend a good site with step by step instructions ?

Thanks.

Try WD40 toloosen the nut.

What about using a water softner?
Try www.diy.com its been quite helpful also take off the taphead and see if there should be a circlip retaining the centre of the valveas they sometimes fall off stopping the washer being lifted off the seat
Are you sure its not an air blockage, If the cold water tap is straight from the mains run a peice of hose from the outlet of the cold too the hot tap, open the hot tap then turn on the cold tap if it is a air blockage it will move it back , turn off the cold tap remove hose.
