Hot Tap Not Working
9 Answers
Hi, in the utility room I have separate hot and cold pillar taps. The hot tap was dripping so I took the top off, got the valve out and put two new washer on it. Tightened up the screw in valve. Now, when I put it back and did it up finger tight, no water comes out. When I loosen it, water comes out but water flies out of the top soaking everywhere. Not sure why, any ideas as to what I may have done wrong. Any advice appreciated.

Try this: 1. Turn off water supply. 2. Open up the tap as if to allow maximum flow of water. 3. Now remove valve. 4. Only install one replacement washer. 5. Re- install/ re- seat valve. 6.Job should now be a good un :-)

I guess this is what Foxy means. One tap washer and one upper "O" ring

Do you mean you loosened the valve body again? That would result in water pouring out around the top.
The body should be tight.
You turn the small spigot at the top to operate the valve (the bit where the handwheel sits)

Yes Mr Builder that what I meant, not two washers, sorry. I have done as Zebu suggested and now have hot water which is great. Only slightly irritating thing is I have to turn the tap 2 or 3 full turns before water comes out, it doesn’t appear instantly. This is only minor, happy to get hot water but still a bit annoying. Thanks to all who replied, appreciate your good advice.
