A work colleague built his own garden shed last year using weather boarding.  He then painted it using a microporous wood stain. This year he has a problem with leaks around the knots.  Is there any product which he can apply that would seal around the knots and would not interfere with the finish?  Something that could be applied from the inside would be ideal.

before painting or staining any timbers, where appearance is of concern eg. new skirtings and architraves etc. you should always seal all knots with a knotting solution available from diy stores, which seals in any resin from the knots and stops it spoiling finished surfaces. as for sealing them after staining, you would probably have to sand down to the bare timber, and then apply it.

hi there well this is what should have been done in the first place before it was painted with the weather seal. you can buy knot sealer from the diy store. painting this on seals the knot making it waterproof. good luck
