Hot Tubs

In an effort to calm everybody down, I would like to introduce a light-hearted new topic. Hope it works !

I have just seen an article in the Guardian that claims that 1 in 10 houses in the UK have a hot tub, rising to 1 in 5 in the West Midlands. This is according to a new survey, although they are not saying who commissioned the survey, who carried it out, and where the survey was done. But I expect it was somebody heavily involved in household plumbing.

1 in 10 sounds highly improbable but 1 in 5 sounds impossible !

Is there anybody on AB, living in a tower block anywhere in Britain, but especially the West Midlands who can have a quick look out their windows and give us some feedback please ?

Personally I stopped bathing with other people when I was 10 and my next down brother was 5, and have no great desire to start again.

We've got one and I know of two other people locally but that's out of about 20 houses, so that's about 15%.
a hot tub round our way wouldn't last long,
mikey....funny you have mentioned that as i was going to post a thread, but "chickened out" as i thought that certain members would think that i was getting at them.

Well mikey...that is the statistic........1in 10 in the UK............1in 5 West midlands.

I don't believe it. Yes I know that it is a statistic, but anecdotally, I do not know ANYBODY with an outside hot tub (I think it specified outside) and i did live for almost 3 decades in areas which might have had them.
Does that sound snobbish or elitist?......Good cus it was meant to.

I do not believe that statistic.
The best thing my husband did when he left was to take his hot tub with him. Totally chavtastic and tacky!

Neither do I Sqad. I am trying to find out more about the survey from the Guardian website but not having much success. I shall persevere though.
I have a bath - does that count? And after a few too many sprouts, it doubles up as a jacuzzi
mamy...yer but! we want a picture of you "immersed"........;-)
You would.
I only know one person in this country who has a hot tub. He's a farmer and it's in a disused barn...............

mikey...thanks...I still don't believe that statistic and feel that me "anecdotal" experience is nearer to the truth.
would be hard pressed to get the cast iron dead weight bath tub outside.
no one round my way has one ,mind they are nearly all oldies and i don't know if they make sling s for hot tubs as theres no way the majority could climb into one .
I know someone who has one. Cant see the appeal myself. Its neither a swimming pool or bath. Waste of garden area that could be put to better use as a vegetable plot or something.
i only know one couple with one, and they don't live here in the capital.

What a pity madmen that you didn't have a chance to try out your ex-husbands hot tub before he left !
Oh I did go in there... after dark when no one could see! lol.
I just think they're ridiculously tacky, but then that's him all over.... :P

We dont have one but my parents do and we use it during the summer (its covered up September - April usually!)
It is a 10 person tub and my folks often have BBQ's and the hot tub will almost certainly get fired up.
That said I dont know anybody else with one. My folks got theirs 3 years ago, mounted on some decking in the sunniest corner of the garden.
Sister and brother in law have one. Communal bathing went out with the Romans. I honestly don't get it. People seem to think it is opulent and cool. It just looks naff and stupid to me.
