I cut the blooms out on the long stems and let the leaves die down naturally

thanks woofgang ,i really like these and would hate to kill them .
Keep Agapanthus leaves away from animals if possible.
Question Author
i haven't any animals ,are they poisonous then
A bit, one of my pups ate the leaves, and was a bit poorly for a day or two. I think the leaves contain saponins. (Soap)

thankyou ferlew i'll tell my neighbour who has some.and has pets
Yes just cut back the dead blooms and if any leaves die back they can be trimmed but otherwise just leave them. When they become big clumps and if you want to split them then the ones that you move you cn cut back the leaves so that the first growth goes into the roots.
split them if you want to but they do grow best when the roots are constricted.

Agapanthus are from South Africa, so will take as much sun as you can throw at em here!

PS, A small sign saying 'Beware of the Agapanthus' may raise a few smiles when visitors come!
