What is it about Next ?

I really, really don't understand why Next is so popular. I think the majority of their clothes are nothing special, and I think of you are buying clothes in that mid-price range, stores such as River Island, Zara and Principles are far better. Next also seems to attract a lot of very rough looking people from council estates, who I assume believe they are buying in to a middle-class brand - which Next isn't. I also do not understand what posseses people to queue up at midnight to get in to a sale at 5am in the morning - and the majority of their sale items are only half price. The House of Fraser sale I think is one of the best around with suits being reduced from �250 to about �60 in many concessions - yet people dont queue up for hours in the early morning to buy (in my opinion) much better items with better reductions. So why do people like Next so much ?????

I would also like an answer to this. I have only brought a top in there once which i didn't even like but got forced into buying it. Its fit was horrible and it washed up horrible. Its not even as if their stuff is that cheap. I think river island is so much better than next and the prices are roughly the same.
Sorry I wasn't any help in answering your question but i'm sure their are people out there who can explain to us why next is so good.

I totally agree with your comments - i hate Next clothes with a passion. All their clothes are overpriced and fit really badly - I would much rather spend my spondoolies in River Island or wait until House of Fraser have their spectacular. I think one of the reasons people seem to like Next is that they can provide the basics to many peoples wardrobes (not mine) and due to the fact that they are overpriced to start with means that when they have their sale, people think they are getting a bargain - Fools

for menswear, i think next is probably the best on the high street.

everywhere else justs stocks, in my opinion, chavvy clothes.

next is the only place i can find a shirt which is just a shirt, rather than a shirt with bits cut out and sewn back on or big faded emblems on the back or bits that are nearly worn through, etc.

Personally i hate River Island!  It's got very like primark and all its clothes are frayed and raggedy-annie!

i think you can get a few good pieces in there - i've got a great evening dress and some really nice shoes. but as for jeans - dont even go there! They're cut really 'sensibly' i.e extra material on the thigh, and the waistline is so high i thight they may have got simon cowell in to design them... urgh!

I agree with shaneystar - please don't tar all council tenants with the same brush jridgeback! We own our own home, but I do know some very nice, smart people who have live in council houses.

Anyway, I used to buy most of my work suits from Next - they fitted well & were of a very good quality. However, I didn't used to buy many other items from there, so can't really comment.

Ive bought some nice clothes recently from next and they fit me perfectly ( im a size 12 but maybe im a funny shape i dont know!). I like some clothes in river island but they seem to take a fashion and then go over the top with it much like topshop.  Everyone to their own i say, If we all wore the same the world but be a boring place.

I also hate their clothes, bu they do stock up to a size 20 i think. Now i am, a size 16 and have trouble on the highstreet so I hate to think how my fellow busty 18 - 20's feel. When you want something at least a bit fashionable and your other option is Evans (which tends to be full of a size 22 - 30) Next becomes an acceptable option.

Stick with HoF then, they also do incredibly good premium bourbons in the food hall (Croydon). And look out for price-slashed Versace in the sales. There's a Next just down the mall if you feel the urge. And more MacDonalds than any other town in the country. MacD is curiously popular as well, but avoid the new curry burger.

I agree that I don't know why Next has got such a great reputation. The clothes don't seem to be any better made than in other high street shops. I personally like Principles.

I used to work in a rich area of London and I'd just like to say that the rich often look awful as well. I'd see these money wearing several thousand pounds of clothes and still managing to look ghastly.

Well I love Next - their clothes fit me perfectly, I find many trousers & jeans too short as I'm tall but only a size 8/10. I have never found any problems with quality & my son loves their things for the same reason as secretsquiz.  I don't have a House of Fraser in my town so I can't comment on their sales.

I agree with shaneystar & smudge your comments about council estate people are out of order, I wonder why you  felt it necessary to say that.

I felt it necessary to include the comments about people from council estates because whenever I have been in Next their typical customers are always very rough looking - you know the type I mean - big gold hoop earrings, clothes with logos all over them, fake burberry handbags etc - and the majority of these sorts of people do come from council estates. People who take offence at ,y comment shouldn't - it was not an insult - that is just the way the majority of council tenants look to me - rough. Something else I did not mention is that Next seem to put a lot of big logos saying 'Next' on their, men's especially, clothes - which I think just looks cheap and common to be honest. I really do hate Next (with the exception of some of their furniture, which is actually quite nice - although I prefer M&S's) and just wondered why other people seem to love it.

I also cannot understand people queueing for the Next sale.  Their clothes are rubbish and cheap looking, how about somewhere like Wallis for a bit of class?  Also the goods in the Next sale are soooo obviously brought in just for the sale,and people just buy tons of it! Like a load of sheep I suppose...

I have to agree with judiewudie on Wallis clothes. Now they really are classy & would beat Next any day.

I think Next are good for tailored trousers for work, but there stuff is so samey and identifiable that you can't get anything without everyone knowing where you got it, and you definately can't get something for your Christmas do because someone else will have the same thing on.
