Fleas in the home

I have recently had a dog that died not so long ago and has left a flea problem all over the house

I had the house fumingated by the council a couple of days ago which I though would get rid of them but the problem seems to be getting even worse

Is there a reason for this or do I have to wait 3 weeks as directed by the council before I can even hoover my house

It is very difficult to get rid of fleas. You might check at local pet shops and other stores to see if they carry flea bombs and foggers and the like that you can use yourself. If you have a garden, check with the local garden shop, as they might have a treatment for the yard, which you should use if at all possible.

You might have to repeat these treatments after a week, because the little darlings lay eggs which hatch and start the problem again.

I'd give your local vet a phone - they're more than used to dealing with such problems!  They may also be able to supply you with effective products and advise you.

The first step I did was phone my vets they gave me some stuff called staykill...guess what they didn't kill

Are there any other animals with access to your house?  Make sure they have all been fully treated for fleas with a prescription drug.  If there are no other animals with access, try cranking your heating up and waiting for a few weeks.  The eggs in your carpets will activate with the heat and the infestation should be self-limiting once they are all hatched. 

Staykil would have been my choice but it really does have to be used very liberally and every single item of furniture, piece of upholstery and bedding material has to be treated.  Also, eggs in these materials will not be susceptible to Staykil and so repeat treatments are always necessary. 

It may be insensitive of me, (not to mention morally disgraceful!) but you could always get another pet and treat it religiously with Frontline Combo - a few weeks and the problem should be waning!

i had the same problem so i bought a "flea trap" which is a little lamp you plug in and the fleas are attracted to the warmth and the light, within days, you notice all the fleas stuck to the disc.
And i would hoover every day for safe measures...worked for me, we are now flealess!
