Just like to say I bought a large blue flowering clematis two years ago,the first year it had 4 blooms i cut it back as instructed but the next year only one bloom,I decided to just leave it and see what happens , Well this year it is absolutely covered in large buds and I am just waiting for them to open I think it will be a glorious sight.

Do a search to see what your variety/type falls into. some need pruning early some late.
