I think its a good dress rehearsal for the real thing and its friendly on the pocket too.
pets are welcome and you can always opt to go back to the house, if things don't work out for some reason.
The down side is mosquitoes are the first things to reside in the tent, so does anyone have any tips on how to combat this problem ?

I camped in the garden with the grandson last summer....no mosquitoes for us that night.. It was so hot in the day and I was really surprised how cold it got in the night.....We loved it though

Burn a candle in a jam jar (for tent safety reasons) outside the opening of the tent, soused in citronella oil.

erect the tent in the house ?
A citronella candle or coil will help. DH and I used to love to garden camp. We could hear the frogs croaking and the loo was only a short trot away. We used to do a barbie with champagne and then roll into sleeping bags. The dogs loved it too. These days if I got down on the ground I might never get up again and I lost DH 3 years ago.....
Generally in the garden if you are obsessive about emptying away all standing water, it will help a lot.

Mazie, You were so right about how cold it can get!
Even though I'd taken heed of your advice and used extra bedding, it still got pretty cold in the wee small hours!

The mozzies I'd seen earlier after I put the tent up, seemed to have gone and neither me or the dog got bit once.
I remembered something about elder leaves as an insect repellent, so I cut a few sprig's, scrunched them up then strew them around on the ground sheet.
If that worked or I just lucky, I don't know but it cost nothing, so i guess its worth remembering.

Thank you all for your replies and experiences.
