Red Clover For Lawn?

Evenin' all,

I'm not precious about my lawn, it is there for the dog to use and enjoy.
However it looks a bit of a mess with all the bald patches. I can vaguely remember someone mentioning using red clover instead of grass as it is hard wearing and fairly resistant to going yellow with dog errm, 'use'.
Has anyone ever tried re-seeding their lawn with red clover? Did it work? and did it create more lawn mowing than normal?

Thanks in advance for any feedback :o)
Cheers

You're better off using white clover in my oppinion (Tryfolium repens)its much shorter and smaller all round.
Forgot to mention that yarrow is another good alternative and wont burn with dog urine.
I have clover growing all over the garden. Can't get rid of the damn stuff. I reckon it thinks for itself and grows where it knows I can't reach it.
Haven't found a four leafed one yet though!

Thanks Chipchopper & Starone,
I'll look into white clover then, sounds like a better option (yarrow is poisonous to dogs according to t'internet)
Good Luck with the hunt for the 4 leaved clover!
:o)
Starone...Try 'Verdone Extra' on your clover. A couple of applications will do for it. Did for mine. The RHS website mentions it as "particularly effective at controlling clovers, including the more persistent species such as Trifolium dubium."
