Washing Machine Cleaning

Has anyone tried Soda Crystals to give their washing machine a clean through? Had mucky marks on my washing today, nothing untoward when I took the filter thing out at the bottom though, anyone any ideas for cleaning it like you do a dishwasher?

Mags...I use Dr. Beckmann Deep Clean.....leaves it sparkling.....x

I used soda crystals ONCE, they left a lot of white reside on the sides of the dishwasher and it took a good few washes to get rid of.

Actually I misread your post thinking you were talking about a dishwasher, I have in fact used soda crystals in my washing machine many times and never had a problem.

I use it in my washing machine. No problems.

I have this problem at times but find that it is a build up of residue around the seal that is the cause of it. A good wipe with a cloth to remove all the gunge accumulated there appears to do the trick.

I used soda crystals, and I have a bottle of Dr Beckmann's when I get round to using it. Whatever you do do not use a small cup of bleach to clean your washer. Years ago I did and the foam kept oozing out of the door and the dispenser drawer I was scooping it out of the washer into the sink for ages. My washer looked great at the end of it all but never again.

I use thick bleach (the cheapo loo kind) around once every couple of months in my machine and have done for many years and machines now, I squeeze a bit round the seal at the bottom where it gets black and wipe a bit more all around the seal in the folds, then i do a longest hottest wash. Its never been a problem with foaming or anything else. If there is a smell of bleach in the machine when i am done then I wash something like teatowels in there.
