Ought not be. But you either need to vent the damp air from the drier or get one with a condenser you empty. Unsure of cost to run though. Washing lines are cheaper but clothes get wet when it rains. I guess one pays what one has to. You could look at the efficiency rating of the item you wish to buy.
You don't say if you already have a tumble dryer. With 5 in the household, you wouldn't want to rely on a washer-dryer to do all of your washing and drying. Its capacity for drying is much smaller than a normal tumble dryer. It would take a few cycles to do all the drying from one wash. If, say, you only tumble-dry men's shirts, and everything else is line-dried it might be ok, but it wouldn't be my choice.
Regarding moisture, I think if you keep a window open there's no problem.
Yes, moisture will be a problem with any drier unit unless it is a condenser type dryer model, or else you vent the extraction outside. Permanent plumbing of the extract vent is preferred to waving the hose outside the open window, especially on a freezing cold winter's morning.
My single friend got rid of hers. Each wash load was two or three drying loads. With five people it may be a bit of a trial.
