Do these suffer from poor reception like other radios do?

No problem with a good aerial and close to the transmitter.
Question Author
How do you know where a transmitter is and how near do you have to be?

Sorry, meant to say thanks :)
Yes they do, you need a good signal or they just give up.

With an analogue radio you just get crackle and hiss over the programme, while with digital it either breaks up or goes altogether.

I gave up on ours as the signal here is too weak.

I know where my local transmitter is and I needed a roof aerial years ago and could see line of site to the mast. 20 -30 miles I suppose for a good signal though some stations are deliberately low-powered for a particular audience, but built-up areas and hills can cause a problem...
Would recommend a DAB radio as they are great. Occasional problem with reception but that is where one is I cannot extend aerial.
Only little gripe is they are slightly behind normal radio so if you have radios on in different rooms it can sound quite strange.
If you know the direction of transmitter, you can place aerial or radio in a window that's facing that direction, to improve reception...
Rocky, I've just bought a very cheap dab radio for my bathroom from Argos for 12.99 .... should have been 16.99. It's a great little radio ( 181 reviews on it ) ... Argos value range 911/ 9822
They are as fickle as the weather, If my radio is moved as little as an inch off the best reception, the signal disappears.

Most of the DAB stations are available on internet radios and reception is much better.
Mine took ages to even find a reception. Once going it was fine but not much better than a normal radio.
I never thought about reception problems when buying mine. All good here!
Not impressed with ours, reception is rubbish.
LOL @ methyl. Not many people left who have heard of the crystal set and the cat's whisker.
I have a Pure Evoke digital radio and it is fantastic. I never have any problems with interference and the sound quality is excellent.
My granddad told me about how much fun he had with one of those, ba.
