Why Park Homes Are Much Cheaper?

Does anyone know why Park Homes are much cheaper than normal house?

Yes some 'park homes' are modular construction now,like 'portacabins'
Residential homes ( as distinct from holiday homes) normally have mains electricity , water and drainage with their own meters just like any other house. For someone over 50 they are a suitable alternative to renting.

You and others on here are getting confused, those things are found on 'holiday parks' , residential homes have to be on designated residential sites where you have the same rights as residents in 'proper homes' .

I think mobile homes on a designated park can be good value for money, quite a lot of living space compared to a rented apartment, although the site expenses for the year can be costly. Check out the small print before agreeing to anything, kinmo.

Many 'proper' houses are modular construction now, they are assmbled from componants made in a factory and put up on site. Steel frames and precast concrete blocks then an outer 'skin' to make them look like conventional houses. There is little diffence between them and 'mobile homes'.

Sorry, I have a friend who lives in one, he has a gift shop, snack bar and pub on site.

That sounds like a holiday park, some people do live almost permanently in them ( I actually know a couple who do) but they have to vacate the site for at least 2 weeks a year . There may be residential sites with shops and pubs though.
Modern modular homes here, would you know these were not convetional homes?

Oh I think I remember who you mean Randy - where he lives are two sister parks, one residential only and one holiday homes.

Both have access to the club etc.

Park Homes are plumbed in to either mains or septic tanks and have mains electric. Unlike normal constructed homes they depreciate in value until they get to a stage where you may have to pay to have them taken away. Marginally better than renting, though,which is money gone forever. They are very snug in the winter and very cheap to heat and keep warm. Swings and roundabouts actually, but if I had to choose I would rather have my own Park Home than a rented home.

hc4361 No more lack of privacy than in a new 'intensive' housing development. You should see how close packed the new develpoments in Cambridge near Addenbrokes hospital are. It is like Hong Kong not East Anglia!

It may be your only choice if you want to live in a detached property, are not able to go up and down stairs, or sold a traditional property and bought a mobile home to shove some dosh in the pension pot.
