Magnolias

I was once told that magnolias (or was it rhododendrons?) come into bloom all over the world at the same time, they are just coming out over the last 2 days here in south Germany. Is it true, and are they out near you?

My magnolia and dwarf rhododendrons are both in bud, but unlikely to bloom for another couple of weeks at least. East coast of Scotland.

I should re-phrase that; on the subject of rhododendrons, which are not even in bloom here yet, when do they bloom in Australia?

Its not spring there now, its autumn, their rhodis and magnolias will flower in their spring which is around september to november

woofgang; Thanks for the link, I followed it to rhododendrons and she says that they too 'flower in [Oz] spring'.
So it appears that my long-held belief that flowers of certain types bloom at the same time wherever they are was wrong. Ah well!

If it helps, it is true that some types of bamboo all flower in the same year and then die all over the world.
