I haven't used my fryer for ages, thought I'd get it out tonight to give it a clean up. The basket is manky, I'm soaking it in hot soapy water but don't think it's going to work.

Anyone got any ideas?

Chippy?
Question Author
Lol, tempting, but I really wanted to make some home made chips and some banana fritters :)
Throw a couple of washing machine tablets into the soaking water and leave overnight.
Steam cleaner?
Yes....Fill it to max with water and drop in a dishwasher tab. Turn it on and leave it on low for an hour or so. The greasy grime just wipes off. It honestly is as easy as that.

Ooh, thanks, I'll give that a go.

Thanks all :)

How is broke?

It's electric. I didn't have the element thingy in properly so it's starting to work now.

Does the same advise stand now, being as it's electric? I think you thought utbwas a stove top one.
Yes the same advice applies

Actually, I'm just about to get in the bath. Think I'll wait til I get out to switch it on so that I can keep an eye on it.
Yes...I have an elec double one. I turn it up high and when it starts to heat I turn it down low and leave it. Leave it as long as poss to make it easier.

Ta, just switched it on.

but disconnect the flex first

Uh oh, I'm in trouble. It boiled and spilled over onto the floor and worktop. He's effin and Jeffin now.
Jeezus that thing sounds lethal
If its got that manky sticky stuff on it then nothing works and believe me I have tried. Bin it and get a new (SAFE) one.
I got fed up with all the mess and cleaning with my deep fat fryer and eventually decided to dump it.
I've now gone over to oven chips, made by the Canadian giant, Mc thingybobs, who use only 100% British spuds.
Less mess and they taste pretty damn good too!
