Shabby Chic

hi I have bought 4 chairs which were wood but have been painted and sanded to give a shabby chic look but they need a fresh coat I'm not sure if I buy the chalk paint Do I just paint the chairs or should I sand them down first

Lightly sand down then use a candle to rub over places you want to look 'shabby' such as corners of the wood. Paint with waterbased paint and when dry (at least 48 hours) clean off wax with hot soapy water.
