Is this a bowl for wooden fruit? - and I see tonight on BBC4 there's a documentary on the Palio, "The world's oldest horse race", is this a race for very elderly horses, and if so, should it not be banned?
This is where hyphens are useful - a wooden fruit-bowl or oldest horse-race would not be ambiguous.
There was a report on the news some months ago saying the Americans had carried out fresh air strikes on Iran; I assume they didn't mean fresh-air strikes.
It has set me wondering if a combination of my two examples might not produce the 'World's oldest wooden horse race'?
Actually folks, I have just watched the Palio program and it is the most astonishing 'sporting' event I have ever seen, highly recommended, and a cigar for anyone who can explain the rules.
