Has anyone any experience of the Monarch Scaleout Water softener? Apparently you only have to change the cartridge once a year!! If anyone knows of a better one, please let me know. Many thank,
Bramley.

I think you may be getting confused by different Monarch products...they do softeners, filters/purifiers, reverse osmosis units and others!
Their water softeners use the conventional "salt regeneration" system....but their Scaleout unit is a scale-prevention system which retains all dissolved minerals....so it does NOT soften the water. You simply have the same hard water that has been "modified" so that it doesn't form the same hard scale in kettles, on immersion-heater elements etc.
